The second Name we memorize and live by
together is…Ar-Rahmaan!
About the meaning..
All creatures bear witness to this Name
and to its beautiful meaning.
The name Ar-Rahmaan is connected to Ar-Rahmah, The Mercy.
Allah the Exalted said,‘I Am
Ar-Rahmaan. I created the Raham (womb, i.e. family relations) and derived a
name for it from My Name. Hence, whoever keeps it, I will keep ties to him, and
whoever severs it, I will sever ties with him.‘ The Prophet [saws]
then said, “This is a text that indicates the derivation.” He then said,
“The Arabs denied the name Ar-Rahmaan, because of their ignorance about Allah
and His attributes.’ [At-Tirmidhi, graded saheeh from Abdur-Rahmaan bin
`Awf radiyallaahu ‘anhu]
Ar-Rahmaan indicates that Allah (glorified
and exalted be He) bestows His mercy upon all the creatures in this universe.
For example eating and drinking is a general mercy giving to everyone, both for
Muslims and Non-Muslims.
Rejoice at the Name
Ar-Rahmaan!
The joy of being under the care of
ar-Rahmaan is felt throughout the whole universe.
Explaining the Mercy of Allah,
ar-Rahmaan, the Prophet [saws] said:
“Allah has divided mercy into 100 parts, and He retained with Him 99 parts, and sent down to earth one part. Through this one part creatures deal with one another with compassion, so much so that an animal lifts its hoof over its young lest it should hurt it.” (Al-Bukhari)
“Allah has divided mercy into 100 parts, and He retained with Him 99 parts, and sent down to earth one part. Through this one part creatures deal with one another with compassion, so much so that an animal lifts its hoof over its young lest it should hurt it.” (Al-Bukhari)
SubhanAllah, imagine that the other 99
parts are yet to come and they are with Allah (glorified
and exalted be He) Himself. You will not enter Jannah because of your deeds,
but by Allah’s Rahmah only!
The Prophet [saws] also said, “When
Allah created the creatures, He wrote in the Book, which is with Him over His
Throne: “Verily, My Mercy prevailed over My Wrath.”(Al-Bukhari)
Isn’t that a big reason to rejoice?
Examples of the Mercy
of Ar-Rahmaan
We can find the Mercy of Allah (glorified
and exalted be He) everywhere around us. When the night enters smoothly into
the day. An example is that we need water and Allah (glorified
and exalted be He) is the only one who can order the sky to rain. And the rain
is sweet and not salty! No one can live without it yet no one can control it or
deny it to someone.
Allah’s Mercy is also seen in the love
we have for each other. As we saw in the above hadeeth Qudsi; the womb in
Arabic is called ‘Raham’, meaning mercy. What about the fact that Allah (glorified
and exalted be He) sent the Prophet [saws] to us, a great Rahmah.
And no matter how many sins you commit
He is still..ar-Rahmaan, so never despair!
